10 Year Anniversary

June 2, 2009

A word from our National Founding Father, Abu Mathew Abraham:

"The movement will not be televised.

"...the Glorious Cause (of America) was to a large degree a young man's cause. The commander in chief of the army, George Washington, was himself only forty-three. John Hancock, the President of the Continental Congress, was thirty-nine, John Adams, forty, Thomas Jefferson, thirty-two..."

-excerpt from 1776 by David McCollough

I feel these great men. I understand. They were young but passionate. They had fresh ideas and boldly went forward with them; they were thinking outside the box. I'm sure people doubted them. I'm sure people talked about how young and inexperienced they were. They believed in the cause so much that, despite their age and inexperience, they stood up against an Empire.

Ten years ago on this day I, along with 7 other young men, believed in a 'glorious cause'. The 8 of us started what would become one of the largest and the most influential South Asian fraternity in this country. Much like the founding fathers of America, we were young. We were not but freshmen, the oldest of us being 19 years old. It didn't deter us in the slightest. We were passionate. We had fresh ideas. We had vision. We were leaders. We defied odds.

I'm proud to be a National Founding Father of Beta Chi Theta. It makes me proud to see the profound impact that our fraternity has on young men and our community. We now pass down to young men what we saw in ourselves; we now ignite fresh ideas, instill passion, mold leaders, and foster visionaries amongst these young men. I'm proud of what we did and I'm grateful that we had the courage to do it....just like those "young guys" that fought and founded America.

From 1 state to 8.
From 1 school to 13.
From the Pacific to the Atlantic.
From 8 men to over 600.

That's not a fluke. That's a movement."
